Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

Welcome! Welcome!

So, what’s my blog about? A little bit of this, a little bit of that, tons about Jackson and a sprinkle of Spina Bifida awareness. Why? Because that’s our life and we want to share it with you. Hope you enjoy!

So, on Monday Jackson was super active, like rolling, flipping, kicking all day.  It was the weirdest thing.  He had never been that active....

Sleep-In Saturday Backlash

I really did jinx myself when I spoke of "Sleep-In Saturday" on my Facebook page last week.  I should have known better.  "Sleep-In Saturday (SIS)" is like Fight Club.  You know - the first rule about Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club.  Same applies to SIS.  You don't talk about it, you just enjoy it.  Well, the smart-ass that I am decided to break the rules and now we are on Day 4 of Jax waking up during the night.  Well played, SIS, well played.  I shall never speak of you again (after this post though, of course).

Not sure what "Sleep-In Saturday" is?  Well, here's a helpful explanation:

Sleep-in Saturday (noun): the rare occurrence where the stars align and all members of the family, including those of the four-legged variety, receive the memo that extra sleep on the first day of the weekend is a good thing; valued and appreciated act of kindness that ranks extremely high on the "Robin Smith List of Awesomeness", placing higher than McD's caramel frappes, massages, flowers from the husband, and Luke Bryan; has been known to significantly increase happiness and lower irritability and overall bitchiness when implemented on a semi-regular basis. Abbreviation: SIS.  Synonyms: Don't-set-the-alarm, Wake-up-in-time-for-lunch, Who-cares-that-the-sun-is-up. Antonyms: Up-at-the-crack-of-dawn, All-night-baby-party, Midnight-dog-barking, I-hate-my-bladder.

^^ How could I not share that brilliantly written, sarcastic, smart-ass definition?!  That's some of my best work right there.

Now, for the record, I have considered that there may actually be a good reason that Jax has been waking up other then retaliation for talking about SIS.  I'm not that naive.  I just found this to be a huge coincidence.  ;)

There are a plethora of explanations as to why it's happening - overtired, upset stomach, too cold, too hot, teething, gassy, constipated, headache, hungry/thirsty, trouble breathing (he's got yet another cold brewing), growth spurt, nightmare, etc, etc, etc. and we're working through every scenario to determine the root cause.  I'm not too worried that it's anything serious.  We'll just try again tonight to make sure everything is attended to so that our little guy can get a good night's sleep.

Besides, there's no guarantee that a child sleeps through the night anyways.  We've just been extremely blessed for the most part that he usually does.  I just found it extremely fishy that this most recent bout of sleeplessness is taking place so shortly after I mentioned how awesome it was to sleep through the night and sleep in.

I should've knocked on some wood when I posted that on Saturday.  LOL.

Catch ya later.

Another Smith Family Blog

I started this blog as a way to keep family and friends, near and far, up-to-speed on what was going on with Jackson. Jackson was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. When he was born, he had to have surgery to close the lesion on his back and then had a follow-up a month later for his shunt placement. My goal was to make sure everyone got an updateon how things were going and what better way to mass-update then the good ole interweb ;) And since everyone isn't on FB (WHAT!?!), I figured that a blog would be the next best thing.

Since then, the blog has morphed into a plethora of stuff ranging from date nights, favorite recipes (okay, haven't posted any recipes yet, but they are in the works), our dog, our house, my awesome hubby, projects from Pinterest that I actually complete, SB awareness and what's going on in Jackson's world. I'll be honest, it's 73% about Jackson and raising a child with SB, at least according to my last calculation. Oh, and pictures. Lots of pictures.

About Me

Robin
Gorham, New York, United States
I’m a notorious procrastinator, a Martha Stewart wanna-be (minus the orange jump suit), and I have a high attention to detail, although some people might just consider me a control freak, perfectionist pain-in-the-arse! Oh yeah, and I’m a tad sarcastic. I've been married to my best friend for 5 years and we have one amazing little toddler, Jax. Our other "baby" is a 4 year old Great Dane who thinks he's a lap-dog. All in all, I love my life!
