Shhhh! Don't tell anyone but I finally got a free moment to myself and figured I'd take a little time to chronicle all of the fun things we did this summer. I can't believe it's September already. Time sure flies when you're having fun, right? ;)
Sit down and get comfortable, this is going to be a long one! But it's more pics and less blabber than usual so that's got to count for something, right?
Now, where to begin? Let's see.....
We did some painting. It was super fun!
For 4th of July we went to our friend's house for a picnic and fireworks. No pictures were tooken (at least on my phone) of the event, but we had a great time, right up until the fireworks. Jackson is NOT a fan! I did get some shots of Jackson beforehand rocking his patriotic attire. It's getting harder and harder to get a good shot of that kiddo. He's way too active for my shutter speed. LOL

For 4th of July we went to our friend's house for a picnic and fireworks. No pictures were tooken (at least on my phone) of the event, but we had a great time, right up until the fireworks. Jackson is NOT a fan! I did get some shots of Jackson beforehand rocking his patriotic attire. It's getting harder and harder to get a good shot of that kiddo. We went out to lunch that weekend with a good friend of mine and afterwards went to Build-A-Bear. Jackson got a new monkey named Opie. More about Opie later, but here's some pics from that adventure. Jackson was more interested in joining in on the birthday party going on in the back rather than concentrating on his own monkey, but he still had a pretty good time.
We went to a Saturday Morning Coffee Hour at Camp in the Woods (where my parents live during the summer). The campers there are very supportive of Jackson and are always asking how he's been doing. Last year we supplied the coffee and donuts as a thank you of for all of the support and this year we chose to do that again. Only this time, Mommy got up and provided a little update on how Jackson was doing and explain a little about what Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus is.
We went out for ice cream at A's Sweets & Treats in Cheshire. One of Jason's co-workers owns the restaurant. They have delicious desserts.
We've started some intro to potty training this summer. Nothing official, just some casual sitting on the potty sometimes when waking up, after meals and before bath and bed. We're still not sure if he has the ability to know when he needs to use the potty but we were encouraged to start getting him used to the idea. So far, I think he's a fan. ;)
We had a lot of firsts this summer. Two of them were Jackson's first visit to the local library and his first visit to KidVenture Dome in Geneva. He had a good time at both places. Unfortunately, all of my pics from both activities were on my laptop which finally died. Take note - if you're ever thinking about backing up your pics - DO IT! Don't wait. You never know when your computer is going to sh*t the bed. :(
We went to the Strong Museum of Play and the Zoo. So excited to have memberships to both places. It's a good time every time we go and there's always something new for Jackson to experience (and some favorites he likes to see/do too).
We also met our friends at Letchworth Park. This is the first time that we had ever been there. The playground we found wasn't the best one for our little guys (not really handicap accessible) but they had a good time playing with trucks on the ground and eating lunch. We also drove through the whole park (a long ride) and checked out the other playgrounds that are there. I think we found a better one to visit next time we go there.
We went to some birthday parties. Jackson got to swing at pinatas, go swimming, bounce on a trampoline and eat lots of cake. He may have had more fun than the birthday boys and girls.
Jackson also visited Chuck E. Cheese for the first time. He came home with lots of little goodies. A very nice little girl gave him some of her tickets and a lady bought him a ball. We spent a little time talking to her and it turns out she has a nephew with Spina Bifida. Small world!
We also did lots of other "summer things". You know, swimming, swimming, swimming, bonfires, a car show, playing outside and spending lots of time with family and friends. Jason and I tried kayaking for the first time and LOVED it. We can't wait to get kayaks of our own and take Jackson out on the water. That is, after we get more used to operating those things ourselves! LOL.
Jason and I also were able to spend some one on one time together too, which was really nice. In addition to kayaking, we usually get a few hours to ourselves every Thursday night while Jackson spends some time down at his Gram and Boppy's house. In most cases, it may just mean that we eat dinner together in the living room watching some of our tv shows or a movie from Netflix instead of out at the dining room table with a toddler who likes to throw his food on the floor and drink out of our cups. But, either way we're very grateful that we able to get some alone time every week. ;)
There were some actual date nights though - some dinners out, a free Gretchen Wilson concert and a 4 day road trip to South Carolina and back.
Jason's Great Uncle passed away last November and his Great Aunt told Jason's Dad that he could have his truck. So Jason and I went down with a truck and trailer, picked up the 1992 GMC truck and headed back to NY. Jackson got to spend some quality time with both sets of grandparents while we were gone and Jason and I got to have our first long-distance trip without the kiddo. I think we all did okay - Skype is a great thing! It was nice to spend time with Jason's Aunt Marie. She is one of the kindest, sweetest and funniest woman I have ever met.
Phew, that was a mouthful! I'm sure there are things I forgot to include. Lots of good times! It's all very tiring.....
I have to admit though, I'm glad that Fall is right around the corner. I'm ready for sweatshirts and chili. How about you?
